What Fafi is
Fafi, also called iChina, is a numbers game that came to South Africa with Chinese migrant workers and became part of township life. Each number from 1 to 36 in the original game carries a symbol, and people match the symbol to what they dreamt.
The mapping was never written down by one authority. It moved by word of mouth, varies by region and family, and published lists disagree.
The numbers our source records
Recorded in the SA Dream Guide build kit held in this workspace (2026-05-20). That document names no upstream source, so the mapping is published here as a recorded tradition, not as a verified fact.
Why this list is not 1 to 49
Because we cannot source the rest. The record covers 11 numbers. The other 38 appear on other sites with confident symbols attached, and those sites do not name where the mapping came from.
If you hold a real source, a book, a photograph of a Fafi board or a recording of someone who ran the game, send it to us and we will publish it with the source named.
